Temple of Poseidon

According to mythology, this temple is where Aegean (king of Athens) committed suicide, hence the name of the Aegean Sea. The temple was dedicated to Neptune, god of the sea. At the beginning of the 5th century it was destroyed by the Persians. Around 444 BC, Pericles ordered for the temple to be rebuilt.
